We decided not to award anything in this category due to only having average entries this year. I can't stress this enough, you cant win, if you don't enter. Too those that question why we decided not award anything within this category this year. There is a certain level of standards that BOP contest should have in place. Out of the five entries that were entered those standards just were not met this year.

I felt the four entries that were able to be judged in this category were at best average and not award worthy. Technically each had too many problems to overlook.

I have to say what an eye opening category this year. We had seven STRONG stories to decide upon for 1,2,3 and Honorable Mention. “Clifford” was by far the best cut story in our eyes out of the seven. Not only was it General News in nature but it’s what a great day turn is all about. Not only did the photographer had well composed photography, the edits were pristine (having Boyd helped too).

“A Detourist Attraction” was also a strong story both in the photography and in the edit. There were two or three quick cuts that kept it from taking top honors.

“Freedom Met Its Limits” was a fine piece, just not enough too change our minds on where it placed. All of the honorable mentions were fine examples of how day turns should look both in the photography, editing and the storytelling.

“The Summer to Park” and “Swim” and “Tax Free Weekend” are both examples of what every photographer and editor would love to do on a daily basis.”

“Clifford”... overall a very good job of making a guy sitting on the side of the road entertaining. the story was shot and edited very well. good pace and simply presented.

a detourist attraction... fast paced story. good job of making a story about a bridge interesting. good nats use. nicely shot. didn’t need the motion effect on the across the bridge, but well done otherwise.

freedom met it’s limits...good pacing. nice nats usage. good photography in a pressure situation.

“the summer to park and swim”... well edited. a lot of nats. i thought that the one word nat insertions in the track were a bit distracting, but not enough to override the overall technique in the pkg.

hov pylons... well paced story. nicely done with an interesting stand-up.

tax free... an inventive twist on the old shopping story. the edits involving the kid and his changing wardrobe were creative and made the pkg.
