Judges’ comments
- Tim Griffis
The winning entry gave us awesome action/reaction shots with sound bites from the fans in the stands while also detailing the highlights of the game. The shot variety made this piece. In this story the hard work by the photographer paid off.
- Bob Gould
With only two entries, it was a quick category to judge. This is a tough category because we want to encourage sports stories that focus on the sporting event and its outcome.
The story “We Believe” was well shot and edited and had some nice moments. We saw what happened at the end…It was a little on the feature-y side, but had the elements necessary to be in this category.
The other story, while well told, really didn’t fit the category and should’ve been entered in sports feature.
- Jeff Roberts
A sparse category with only two entries. But the story of the Women’s Drake Basketball team seemed to stand out among the two. Nicely paced with a storybook ending as the girls head to the Tourney.
- Preston Rudie
“We Believe” was a nice way to tell the story of who won the championship game. I enjoyed the fan SOTs and their enthusiasm. I think the story could have been stronger with either some natural sound of the radio or arena announcers and at least one more highlight from OT showing Drake taking the leading and making a bucket. Overall, nice job.
- Nellie Stinson
This story had everything that a viewer could ask for...highlights from the game, reactions from the fans as the game is being played, and a Cinderella ending where the hometown team wins.
