- Magazine Illustrative Story
- A non-news story about food, fashion, natural history, science/technology, or similar topics. The expectation is that the images are illustrative or essay oriented.
April 09
- Magazine Recurring Feature or Series
- Submit 4 examples of the series or feature. (All 4 examples which make up the entry should be saved in a single PDF file.)
April 08
- Newspaper - Multi-page news
- A multi-page presentation of a news event from within a single news cycle. (The entry should be saved as a single PDF file.)
- Newspaper Picture Editor of the Year – INDIVIDUAL
- A portfolio of no more than 10 (PDF) entries from the Newspaper Picture Editing categories. Judges will consider range and diversity of entrant’s portfolio. (The entire portfolio should be saved as a single multiple-page PDF file.)
- Newspaper Picture Editor of the Year – TEAM
- A portfolio of exactly 10 (PDF) entries from the Newspaper Picture Editing categories. Judges will consider range and diversity of entrants’ portfolio. (The entire portfolio should be saved as a single multiple-page PDF file.)
- Newspaper - Single-page Newspaper Documentary/Photojournalism project
- A single-page presentation of a photojournalistic or documentary project. Breaking news coverage should be entered in EN13 or EN14.
- Newspaper Sports project
- One or more pages. Single-page entries that ran as the front page should be entered in EN03. (The entry should be saved as a single PDF file.)
- Magazine Picture Editor of the Year
- A portfolio of no more than 10 complete entries from the above listed Magazine Picture Editing categories. Judges will consider range and diversity of entrant’s portfolio. (The entire portfolio should be saved as a single multi-page PDF file.)
- Magazine Sports Story
- Entries may consist of single or multiple pages. (Each entry should be saved as a single PDF file.)

- Newspaper - Single page news
- A single page presentation, other than a section front, of news from within a single news cycle.
- Newspaper Recurring feature or series
- Submit four separate examples from the feature or series. (This category is intended for photo columns, personality profile series, or similar presentations.)
- Newspaper Special section or reprint
- A special section presentation or reprint. Not a normal section of the paper. (The entry should be saved as a single multiple-page PDF file.)
- Newspaper Illustrative multiple page
- A multiple page presentation of food, fashion, natural history, science or technology, or related topics. The expectation is that the images are illustrative or essay oriented. Feature stories should be entered in EN06. (The entry should be saved as a single multiple-page PDF file.)
- Newspaper Illustrative single page
- A single page presentation of food, fashion, natural history, science or technology, or related topics. The expectation is that the images are illustrative or essay oriented. Feature stories should be entered in EN05.
- Newspaper - Multiple-page Newspaper Documentary/Photojournalism project
