Best Audio Slideshow: “A Prayer for Father Tim”; Minneapolis Star Tribune; “The Miracle of Hope” Two years ago, Father Tim Vakoc became the first -- and only -- military chaplain gravely wounded in the war in Iraq. He returned home to Minnesota with little hope. But he found a way to continue his ministry from his bedside. With the devoted help of family, friends and volunteers, Father Tim's personality slowly emerged and after years of silence, he finally began to speak.

The story's voice remained with us throughout subsequent judging sections. It's a beautifully crafted piece that shares both the smaller personal story of recuperation within the larger ongoing discussion about the human toll of the Iraq war. The interweaving of his own voice with those of his community accompany a tightly edited gallery of stellar photography.
