Twice a year Milan, Italy, gives itself over to womenÕs fashion week. Super-models, buyers, fashion pilgrims and partiers flock to consume the visual extravaganza, while the business of beautification is conducted at a frenetic pace backstage, hidden from view.
The word "fashionista" was coined by Stephen Fried in his book "Thing of Beauty: the Tragedy of Supermodel Gia" to describe "the army of models, photographers, designers, hair and makeup people, stylists and editors who toiled daily in the beauty trenches."
