PEACEFUL ORPHANS - Napping orphans at the Cherith International Children's Center in Freetown, Sierra Leone. The bed is about the size of American king size. After lunch, 10 boys take a half hour long afternoon nap. (From left to right) - Alhassan Bangura, 6, Khalil Bangura, 4, is center left. Ibrahim Bangura, 6, is second from right. Abass Tarawalie, 4, is far right with different green shirt on. STORY INFO - Many of the orphaned children in Sierra Leone are without parents due to the decade long Civil War. Others are orphaned due to poor economic conditions or disease. African adoption by Americans is a small phenomena. Since the late 1990s, 150 Sierra Leone orphans have been adopted by Americans.
