Volunteer Cameron Tarzwell, 13, cleans loose hairs that have been shaved from an anesthetized Princess before sterilizing the area that will be operated on. Tarzwell has been assisting veterinarian Lorie Portugal for four years. MORE STORY INFO: Charlie (not in photo) and Princess were born six months ago to a stray cat in Coatesville, PA. The kittens were found by a Spayed Club volunteer and were given to fourteen year-old Theresa Weaver and her father David C. Weaver. On January 9, 2002, Dr. Lorie Portugal, of Thorndale, spayed Princess and neutered Charlie. These are two more cats that were sterilized through "The Spayed Club" and will keep the pet population down. One of the The Spayed Club programs is the spay/neuter program that offers reduced rates or subsidize the cost of the surgeries for those who cannot afford it. The Spayed Club assisted with Charlie and Princess' surgeries because Theresa's father is a full-time college student with minimum income.
