- Growing Latino Community in Baton Rouge

Antonia Acosta, a budget specialist with the East Baton Rouge Parish School system, removes her 'La Purisima Concepcion de Maria', a hand-made statue of the Virgin Mary, following a 'La Griteria' celebration for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception she hosted in her backyard a couple of nights before. Acosta, originally from Nicaragua, was a former Diocese coordinator for the Hispanic Ministry of Baton Rouge and has hosted the Latino service where people gather and scream 'Gritar!' about how happy they are that Mary has conceived Jesus, for the past five years.
