Oklahoma City Police Department Chaplain Jack Poe wipes a tear away after leaving a penny and praying at the foot of Thomas Lynn Hawthorne Sr.'s chair in the Field of Empty Chairs at the Oklahoma City National Memorial the evening before Timothy McVeigh was to be executed. Poe had become close friends with Hawthorne's mother Betty after the bombing. The penny is left "in memory" of Thomas because of a story from his life that his family uses to remember him by.
